LECTURE ON NOTHING/ CONFERENCIA SOBRE LA NADA
JOHN CAGE
"Conferencia sobre la nada" de John Cage, presentada en 1949, es una reflexión sobre el vacío, el silencio y la ausencia de significado predeterminado. En 2024, esta obra formó parte de la Fiesta Escénica, un festival internacional de teatro y artes escénicas, con la participación de los artistas Antonio Cepeda, Grecia Albán, María Isabel Pérez, David Barberán Cevallos, Juan Sebastián Ruales y Priscila Zumárraga Suárez en colaboración con la Fundación Teatro Sucre. En esta puesta en escena, la dirección espacial y artística estuvo a cargo en colaboración con el director general, creando un espacio onírico donde la "nada" se manifestaba tanto en la obra como en el entorno. Logrando así una atmósfera mágica con piezas volando, juegos de luz y oscuridad, y elementos que no solo decoraban el escenario, sino que también eran funcionales, como los instrumentos musicales, integrando lo etéreo y lo tangible en una experiencia única.
The "Lecture on Nothing" by John Cage, presented in 1949, is a reflection on emptiness, silence, and the absence of predetermined meaning. In 2024, this work was part of the Fiesta Escénica, an international theater and performing arts festival, featuring the artists Antonio Cepeda, Grecia Albán, and María Isabel Pérez, David Barberán Cevallos, Juan Sebastián Ruales and Priscila Zumárraga Suárez in collaboration with the Fundación Teatro Sucre. In this production, the spatial and artistic direction was carried out in collaboration with the general director, creating a dreamlike space where "nothing" manifested itself both in the work and in the environment. Thus achieving a magical atmosphere with flying pieces, games of light and darkness, and elements that not only adorned the stage but were also functional, like musical instruments, integrating the ethereal and the tangible into a unique experience.
